Grease is a solid, semi-solid or semi-fluid lubricant
produced by combining a liquid lubricant (base oil) with additive and a
thickening agent. The use of grease has many advantages over lubricating oil
including:
- Doesn’t leak or drip out – stays where it’s put
- Reduces need to for frequent re-lubrication
- Increases persistence of lubrication in intermittent applications – start/stop
- Used in areas difficult to seal
- Used where lube oils aren’t effective
